Hydro jetting clears clogged drains and sewer lines with high-pressure water instead of a blade or chemicals. A jetting nozzle is fed into the line, and the water scours grease, sludge, scale and debris off the pipe walls and flushes it out. On Long Island, where many homes have older cast iron, clay or concrete lines and mature trees close to the house, it is often the most thorough way to get a line flowing again.

Rapid Response Cesspool runs hydro jetting equipment out of Bay Shore and serves homes and businesses across Nassau and Suffolk County. If you have a backup right now, call (631) 383-4797. We answer 24/7.

When hydro jetting makes sense

Jetting is a good fit when a drain keeps clogging after it has been snaked, when more than one fixture is slow at once, or when the problem is a build-up rather than a single object. It is commonly used for:

  • Grease and soap build-up in kitchen and main drain lines
  • Sludge and scale coating the inside of older pipe
  • Fine tree roots growing into joints (heavier roots are cut first, see sewer root removal)
  • Sewer lines that back up repeatedly after short-term fixes
  • Restaurant and commercial kitchen lines that carry a lot of grease

Jetting vs. snaking

A drain snake (auger) punches a hole through a clog. It is quick and works for many simple blockages, but it can leave a film of residue on the pipe wall that lets the clog return. Jetting washes the full diameter of the pipe. Neither is right for every line, so we look at the symptoms, the pipe material and its age before choosing. Our guide hydro jetting vs. snaking for Long Island drains goes into more detail.

What to expect

We start by locating a cleanout or access point and asking how the problem showed up. If the line is damaged or collapsed, jetting is not the answer, and we will tell you that instead of pushing through. When appropriate we can run a video camera through the line before or after jetting so you can see the condition of the pipe. You get a free estimate before scheduled work begins.

Where we work

We serve towns across Long Island including Bay Shore, Babylon, Islip, Huntington, Patchogue and Smithtown in Suffolk County, plus Nassau County. See also our sewer cleaning and drain cleaning pages.

Hydro Jetting FAQ

What is hydro jetting?

Hydro jetting uses a high-pressure stream of water, fed through a hose and nozzle, to scour the inside of a drain or sewer line and flush out grease, sludge, scale and debris.

Is hydro jetting safe for older pipes?

It depends on the pipe. Sound pipe handles it well, but cracked, collapsed or badly deteriorated pipe can be damaged by pressure. That is why we look at the line first, sometimes with a camera, before deciding whether jetting is appropriate.

Will jetting remove tree roots?

Jetting can wash out fine roots. Thicker roots are usually cut first with root-cutting equipment, then the line is jetted to clear the debris.

How is jetting different from snaking?

A snake pushes through a clog, while jetting washes the whole inside of the pipe. Snaking is often enough for a simple blockage. Jetting is more thorough for grease and build-up.
